A
series of international CONFERENCES conducted by Coventry University, UK, and
the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee Center for
By-products Utilization, USA. http://www.cbu-uwm.info
The
third international conference (SCMT3) has been planned after the two
successful events in Coventry, UK, in 2007, which had over 160 delegates, and Ancona, Italy, in 2010, which had over 270 delegates. These conferences were attended by
government officials, engineers from government and private industry,
engineering faculty and students, materials suppliers, construction companies, and
others. While the first and second
conferences highlighted current practice and research in sustainable
construction materials, they also showed that more research and implementation
work remains to be done in this area. Therefore, the third international
conference has been planned for August 2013 to continue this technology
transfer effort.

SCMT3 will be held in Kyoto, Japan on August 18 - 22, 2013. Kyoto is the ancient capital of Japan with many historic and cultural attractions. The variety, historical span and sheer number of World Heritage Sites in Kyoto is unrivalled in the country and includes Nijo-jo Castle and sixteen temples and shrines. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto and http://www.kyoto.travel/. We shall arrange and run tours for delegates and accompanying persons. Typical August temperatures are 22-33 degrees C (71-91 degrees F)
The
conference will be run by our Japanese hosts.
However Professor Tarun Naik tarun@uwm.edu
and Professor Peter Claisse p.claisse@coventry.ac.uk
remain as permanent members and co-chairs of the organising committee and will
be happy to help if you have problems.
We have
taken great care with the arrangements.
Japan is an expensive country but the basic conference fee will only be
600 Euros. It is not customary in Japan
to include lunches but we have been promised that these will be available for
less than 10 pounds and the conference dinner will be around 100 Euros. A full printed copy of the proceedings will
not be provided to every delegate but everybody will get a book of abstracts
and a cd. Full
printed copies will be available from a print on demand service which can get
them delivered to your home so you don’t have to carry them back.
For
details of the conference please go to the main SCMT3 conference website http://www.jci-net.or.jp/~scmt3.
Abstracts of 200-300 words should be
submitted by 27 July 2012. Click

Awards:
A committee has
been established for awards, whose sole function is to select manuscripts for
awards. Up to 15 manuscripts will be selected for recognition at this
international conference, SCMT3, in Japan.
With an agreement already in-place, these award-winning papers will be reviewed
by ASCE Journal of Material in Civil Engineering (ASCE-JMCE), USA. After following standard ASCE procedure for
publication of manuscripts, they will be published in ASCE-JMCE. Such award-winning papers, from the Second
International Conference on Sustainable Construction Materials and
Technologies, Ancona, Italy, June 2010, (SCMT2), were
published in by ASCE-JMCE in June 2011. Contact <tarun@uwm.edu> for
more information.
We also plan to publish papers in a special edition of a major UK journal. Details will be provided soon.
For SCMT3, a
significant new idea is being introduced.
It is a prize for the best innovative, novel, idea that would benefit
from an industrial field trial. Typically this might be the use of a
novel material in concrete, but it could involve any novel material or
technology and the prize would be for the concept to be used for a trial by an
industrial sponsor. We are seeking additional sponsors who would be
prepared to help select the ideas and to host the trials in UK, EU countries,
USA, Japan, or other countries. Contact p.claisse@coventry.ac.uk for
details.
