The third international conference (SCMT3) has been planned after the two successful events in Coventry, UK, in 2007, which had over 160 delegates, and Ancona, Italy, in 2010, which had over 270 delegates. These conferences were attended by government officials, engineers from government and private industry, engineering faculty and students, materials suppliers, construction companies, and others. While the first and second conferences highlighted current practice and research in sustainable construction materials, they also showed that more research and implementation work remains to be done in this area. Therefore, the third international conference has been planned for August 2013 to continue this technology transfer effort.
We are pleased to confirm sponsorship from: ACI, ASCE, CSCE, JCI and RILEM in addition to Coventry University and UWM.
SCMT3 will be held in Kyoto, Japan on August 18 - 22, 2013. Kyoto is the ancient capital of Japan with many historic and cultural attractions. The variety, historical span and sheer number of World Heritage Sites in Kyoto is unrivalled in the country and includes Nijo-jo Castle and sixteen temples and shrines. Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto and http://www.kyoto.travel/. We are arranging sight-seeing and technical tours for delegates and accompanying persons. Typical August temperatures are 22-33 degrees C (71-91 degrees F). Kyoto is about 550 kilometres southwest from the nuclear power plant in Fukushima.
Details of a very wide range of tours may be found at Accompany person's tour of SCMT3. We have confirmed that Nippon Travel Agency will send an interpreter-guide for travel matters to the opening reception on the evening of 18th Aug. If accompanying persons wish to go on a tour with others from the conference we recommend that you should meet at the tour desk during the reception and make your booking.
The conference will be run by our Japanese hosts. However Professor Tarun Naik email@example.com and Professor Peter Claisse firstname.lastname@example.org remain as permanent members and co-chairs of the International Organising Committee and will be happy to help if you have problems.
We have taken great care with the arrangements. Japan is an expensive country but the basic conference fee will only be 600 Euros. It is not customary in Japan to include lunches but we have been promised that these will be available for less than 10 pounds and the conference dinner will be around 100 Euros. A full printed copy of the proceedings will not be provided to every delegate but everybody will get a book of abstracts and a cd.
Abstract submission is now closed.
A committee has been established for awards, whose sole function is to select manuscripts for awards. Up to 15 manuscripts will be selected for recognition at this international conference, SCMT3, in Japan. With an agreement already in-place, these award-winning papers will be reviewed by ASCE Journal of Material in Civil Engineering (ASCE-JMCE), USA. After following standard ASCE procedure for publication of manuscripts, they will be published in ASCE-JMCE. Such award-winning papers, from the Second International Conference on Sustainable Construction Materials and Technologies, Ancona, Italy, June 2010, (SCMT2), were published in by ASCE-JMCE in June 2011. Contact <email@example.com> for more information.
Papers have also been selected for publication in Construction and Building Materials.
